Only 2 weeks until the summer...

We leave for Kiel in less than 2 weeks! Exams are over for another year which is a great feeling and just looking forward to the summer events. We kick off with Kiel, Germany and this will be my first Kieler woche. I am especially excited about this event as it is one which I have never done before. The Olympic classes are racing for the first part of the week in their "ISAF Grade 1" event. The second part of the week (Thursday - Sunday) is when the international classes (inc. 420) race.

I will try to keep this news section up to date as we travel around Europe so keep checking!

Exam season...

Not anyone's favourite time of year, especially not mine! I have my AS level exams from now up until the first of June and Hugh has is GCSE's over a similar time period. The "light at the end of the tunnel" is that after the exams the summer itinerary looks awesome. World famous Kiel week in Germany; Intervela on Lake Garda, Italy; World Championships also on Garda and the junior Europeans, Lake Ballaton, Hungary. As summer internationals go, this summer looks pretty good. After those events is the National Championship in late August and then back to school. So at the minute I am doing pretty much anything to put off revision, coaching, fitness, windsurfing, cycling but eventually I need to start "real work". Still only 3 weeks till the summer season starts and the exams ends.

Bloody Mary...

On Saturday 10th was the Bloody Mary Pursuit race, held at Queen Mary sailing club. 170+ boats with many different classes hit the water despite the terrible forecast of freezing fog and very little wind. After a seriously long race (around 2 hours for us) we managed to scope the prize for first under 18 team and managed to be the first 420 across the line- our pre race aim.

Update from the 420

Well long time no posts and that's my fault, as you can imagine it has been a pretty mad few weeks. I guess changing sailing class always involves maxium time on the water, not an easy thing to get- esspically in November and December! The good new is that everything is going really well and perfectly to plan. We are looking forward to our Christmas holidays next week as that should provide plenty more opportunity for training. Hopefully I should soon be able to post some picture of the new boat.
